When you implement Google Consent Mode V2, you will see your Google Analytics and Google Ads tags firing.
Howvere they should be firing with proper consent signals which tell Google if the consent has been provided or not.
But there is no visible way to do that in Google Tag Manager.
In order to see if the consent mode is working or not follow these steps
- Load your site
- Right click on click on "Inspect"
- This will open a console.
- Go to "Network" tab in the console
- type in "collect" in the network filter
- Reload the page
- Click on collect related to GA tracking
- Go to Payload tab
- Look for a cookie called "gcs"
- This cookie will show you the consent status.
What does GCS cookie contain
It contains 2 values after G1, the values indicates consent for ads and second contains consent for analytics.
Value in GSC | What does it mean |
G100 | No Ads and Analytics consent has been granted. |
G110 | Ads have the consent but Analytics does not |
G101 | Ads don't have consent but Analytics does |
G111 | Both Ads and Analytics have consent. |
